Description

Plan your group's winter retreat in the delightful rural privacy of EarthNest Cottage. Every Winter season we welcome longer-term renters. Minimum two days, Discounts for One Week and One Month. Great discounted monthly rental for all six months of winter, per lease.

Claim Your Sanctuary! Go on Retreat! This place is modest, wonderfully comfortable and quiet. Hello, you city people - Get back to nature and change your life!

Your luxurious solar and wind powered 3-level cottage is a short hike or bike ride from the Colorado Wildlife Area of Mountain Home Lake, with good (ice) fishing, likely sights of deer, elk, jackrabbits, coyote and bald eagle. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is a short drive away and you can warm your bones at some delightful thermal (hot!) springs. Ski areas of Taos and Red River are about an hour away. Right outside the door you can walk, run, bike or ski the network of country roads in the Sangre de Cristo Ranches of southern Colorado's Rocky Mountain foothills.

Nestled on an easy-access hillside, this country home comes as a whole package, but if you wish, for added privacy, there are two independent living areas, each with its own entrance, kitchen and bathroom.

Downstairs you have a queen-sized Tempurpedic bed and a single lofted bed. For starlight sleeping the sun-room's single couch adds a fourth bed on the downstairs level.

For families or for small groups, it's great to have this lower level second efficiency apartment with gas-range kitchen and delightful sun room.

Your view overlooks 150 miles across the mesas of the San Luis Valley to the far horizons of the San Juans and the Continental Divide.

It's no exaggeration to say that you'll love this big roomy house, but you'll be amazed by the "forest-grove" downstairs bathroom. What an illusion! The gorgeous copper and brushed-nickel tub and the slab of mahogany vanity are surrounded by massive oak trees, captured by the murals' photographer. The pictures give an idea. It's very nice!.

With all electric and electronic comforts being solar powered and off the grid, we are thermostat heated and have plenty of hot water. In fact our 300 foot well has been tested many times, and our water is ten times more pure than the best city water anywhere.

The open architecture of the second or main floor, with a big rock fireplace and cork-tile flooring, is flooded with natural light and opens up to a high vaulted ceiling. The fireplace and the roaring wood stove offer extra winter warmth to our always-on thermostat heating system. Yes, you can certainly carry in some wood from the woodpile, but you don’t have to.

The main level kitchen is practical, functional, and comes with all you need for cooking. My pantry is open to you for the regular staples like S&P, oils, flour, sugar etc., and lots of choices for teas and spices. You'll wash dishes the old fashioned way, by hand.

Instead of TV we offer a nice monitor with ROKU, giving you access to Netflix and other selections, or you can plug in your own music and games. If you're not outside most of the time, which is easy to do here even in winter, you'll have an excellent library to browse.

This is not a Martha Stewart home. The character of the house is eclectic, exuberant, colorful, worldly, and somewhat whimsical. You'll enjoy the company of Leo, the great mahogany lion who just sits there on the hearth, protective and majestic.

The bathroom on this level is Tahitian, with a Gauguin print, a Talavera ceramic washbasin, and a very nice claw-foot tub and shower right next to the window. You may see passing deer or a herd of elk as you bathe.

Overlooking the living room, behind a handsome ship-white railing, is the Loft, the sunny third level dormer with a nice double brass bed and a good reading light. The big bay window gives a "penthouse" view of the area and provides nice cross ventilation of clean mountain air. A needle-point loveseat, a big aloe cactus, and a huge healthy jade plant complete the picture of simple farmhouse pleasures, all nicely put together.

On the main level, the 400 sq ft sunset-facing Rio Grande Dining Room has polished pine flooring and seven windows overlooking the spectacular views of Mount Blanca, Mountain Home Lake, and the vast reaches of the Valley's mesas, rimmed by the San Juans on the far horizon. The handsome custom built distressed-wood table and leather chairs hold six for dinner, and there are plenty of colorful plates and table settings available for your family feast.

Total sleeping capacity looks like this: two couples, two singles, plus two more on the upstairs and downstairs couches, making a total of eight.

The grounds have plenty of room for camping, tenting, and there’s lots of parking for snowmobiles, motor homes or RVs and ATVs and bikes and play toys you bring.
