Description

Gorse Lodge sleeps 6 and is set in Hartland Forest, yet within a short distance of the North Devon Coast. The Lodge is in a peaceful location with delightful views and there are two well stocked fishing lakes nearby.

Perfect for walking, cycling and enjoying the North Devon and Cornish coast lines. A great combination of relaxing at the lodge and/or visiting the many interesting locations.

Gorse Lodge has plenty of space around it as it is located on the edge of the site with level access from it's 2 car parking spaces a few yards away. It is one of the very few Lodges with land line wi-fi.

This well equipped Lodge has been constructed using Scandinavian design techniques allowing plenty of light and feeling of space with the high vaulted ceilings. It is very well insulated, as well as being double glazed throughout. It is ideal for holidays at any time of the year.

Gorse Lodge has one master bedroom with double queen sized bed and en-suit shower room, there are two further bedrooms both with twin beds and a separate bathroom.

The open plan well equipped kitchen has a range of base and eye level units with electric hob and oven below, fridge, freezer, dishwasher etc. it has everything you need for 6 people. The dual aspect dining area has a table and 6 chairs; a high chair is available if needed. The lounge area with leather seating has a TV, DVD player etc. and has large dual aspect windows, one with sliding door leading onto the decked terrace.

This is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The rugged North Devon and Cornish coastline with stunning scenery, high cliffs and many surfing beaches to choose from make it unforgettable. The nearby village of Woolsery also known as Woolfardisworthy the village with two names is approximately 3.5 miles from the Lodge. The narrow country lanes wind upwards and onwards through steep banked hedgerows. As you come down into Woolsery you can see the medieval tower of All Hallows Church on the skyline. It is surrounded by unspoilt countryside. The Woolsery Fish and Chip shop opens 5 days a week Tuesday through to Saturday, 12–2pm, 4:30–8:30pm closed Sunday and Monday. The Grade II listed Farmers Arms was the only pub in Woolsery but it closed in 2012. It is now being completely refurbished by Michael and Xochi Birch the founders of Bebo social network. The millionaire Michael Birch says the village is his 'spiritual home'. His grandmother was born in the village shop and we understand he had regular holidays in the village.

There is a choice of Pubs with food available in Clovelly. It is just 5 miles away and has a world famous harbour. The renown steep pedestrianized cobbled main street has views over the Bristol Channel. The famed Clovelly donkeys that used to bring the herrings up from the fishing boats have a more restful time these days in the meadow at the top of the village. Visitors’ children are able to have donkey rides during the summer months. If you’re looking for a fun day out the Milky Way Adventure Park, close to Clovelly, has it all! At The Milky Way they’ve got attractions to suit all ages, whatever the weather.

Hartland Peninsula approximately 8 miles away is a convenient centre for walking parts of the South West Coast Path, with it’s wild coastal scenery around the point which is some of the most dramatic on the path, with views across to Lundy Island. From Hartland Point, the Lundy Company operates its helicopter service to Lundy between November and March.

Sandymouth which is approximately 11 miles is a popular but unspoilt National Trust beach of pebbles and sand backed by incredible twisted cliffs. All the family can have fun rock-pooling as well as enjoying all other beach activities. It is just a few minutes walk from the car park to a short flight of steps leads down to the beach, passing plenty of picnic benches and a toilet block. The Café (National Trust concession) opens seasonally. The National Trust car park where members park for free applies charges to none members. Dogs are welcome under control on the beach all year. There are coastal cliff walks towards Duckpool and Northcott Mouth along part of the South West Coastal path.
